In light of the University’s newly released policy regarding COVID-19 -- recommending the community minimize social contact -- we encourage students to utilize virtual options when seeking support or information from the Earth Systems Program. Please contact staff via email or phone and we will be happy to assist! Latest information about the University's response to COVID-19 can be found here: healthalerts.stanford.edu
The Julie Kennedy Public Service Scholar Awards recognize students who have engaged in meaningful public service activities, either on their own or through established organizations, related to their Earth Systems studies. Julie Kennedy Public Service Scholars have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service in an environmental context through their course work, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work and research. They embody the Earth Systems Program and their positive contributions to their Stanford, national, and global communities are making a difference!
The awards are named for Julie Kennedy, Professor (Teaching) Emerita of Earth System Science, and former Peter E. Haas Faculty Co-Director of the Haas Center for Public Service. Professor Kennedy was part of the leadership team of the Earth Systems Program from 1994 to 2016, serving as Associate Director (2001-2012) and Co-Director (2012-2014). She was also a Senior Fellow of the Woods Institute for the Environment, Landreth Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education, a recipient of the Lloyd W. Dinkelspiel Award for Distinctive and Exceptional Contributions to Undergraduate Education, and a recipient of the Student Affairs Faculty Award for Outstanding Service.
Kennedy Public Service Scholar Awards are made by nomination only. Students may be nominated by other students, faculty, or staff or may self-nominate. Recipients receive a cash prize, which they are encouraged to use in part to support a charitable organization of their choice. Eligible students are Earth Systems undergraduates and co-term students.
