Among other priorities, she works to ensure that California's waterways and wetlands have sufficient, high quality water to support thriving wildlife populations. Before joining Defenders, Rachel worked for three years as the Altshuler Berzon LLP-NRDC Joint Fellow, and litigated cases involving environmental, employment, and civil rights matters. She also served as a law clerk to Judge John T. Noonan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Marilyn L. Huff of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.
Rachel graduated from Stanford in 2009 with a joint J.D./M.S. While at Stanford, she served as Editor in Chief of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal and President of the Stanford Environmental Law Society. She also spent significant time working in the Stanford Environmental Law Clinic representing clients in federal court. Rachel spent her first summer working with the U.S. Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division and her second summer with the Natural Resources Defense Council. Rachel's primary research interests while at Stanford focused on the relationship between water-related climate change impacts and water law and policy in the western United States. Rachel received an undergraduate degree in geosciences from Princeton University.
