Linh Phuong Pham comes from Vietnam. After graduating from Vietnam National University Honor Program with Ecology major, she worked at the Vietnam Environmental Agency where her responsibilities focused on wetlands. She helped develop and monitor the implementation of environmental polices affecting wetlands and to coordinate wetland conservation projects in the country. Linh is also a consultant to the ASEAN Regional Centre for Biodiversity Conservation. This group is a financing and networking mechanism to promote intra ASEAN and ASEAN – EU linkages in nature conservation. Linh helped develop the centre’s conservation strategies, identify conservation priorities for Vietnam, and coordinate Vietnam’s conservation efforts with those of other ASEAN countries.
Linh won a fellowship from the Russell E. Train Foundation of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to do her master’s degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia (the UK). She also received various other awards, including scholarships from the German Educational Exchange Service and the Mitshubishi Bank.
Prior to coming to E-IPER, Linh joined the Sustainable Business Group of PriceWaterhouseCooper in London in their work to consult with WWF on their strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Europe.
After earning an MS from E-IPER, Linh worked as Environmental Coordinator for Occupational Knowledge International, an NGO in San Fransisco working to improve environmental health in heavy industries in developing countries. Having acquired an entrepreneur spirit after all that time studying and working in Silicon Valley, Linh is now back in Vietnam, her home country, launching her own recycling business.
Linh is a yoga trainer. She loves cooking, gardening and has received several prizes for oriental flower arrangements.
Quote
I came to E-IPER with an ecology background, and as they say “once you have a hammer, everything looks like nails.” I was largely pro-conservation, anti-development. The E-IPER experience enriched my world view, my philosophy and my tool box. I value my new ability see the big picture and to communicate with people from multiple backgrounds. Now I better understand why economists think the way they do and why project developers act the way they do, because I have received training in those areas, and have acquired some of their tools. More importantly, I have lived, worked, and had great debates plus lots of fun with them in E-IPER! The ability to understand, dialogue and act across disciplinary barriers is crucial to solving the multi-facetred, far- reaching environmental problems of today, and the E-IPER program is providing exactly that.
