Chiamaka Ogwuegbu (BS '18)

Chiamaka is a senior in the Human Environmental Systems track from Hyattsville, MD. He has devoted much of his time and energy while at Stanford to the wellbeing of others on campus and in the communities surrounding Stanford. Chiamaka has engaged deeply with sustainability efforts on and off campus by leading a number of campus initiatives, like his food waste research with R&DE, and through his involvement in sustainability-related summer internship work, such as during last summer with the City of Oakland’s Strategic Planning Division. Chiamaka has also served in student government as a co-director for the ASSU Executive’s Sustainability Committee. In this role he spearheaded Stories of Sustainability, an environmental justice-themed storytelling event that highlighted the human impacts of climate change. Additionally, during his freshman and sophomore years, he mentored youth through the East Palo Alto Tennis & Tutoring, and Men & Youth Teaching Each Other programs. Chiamaka has demonstrated a clear commitment to public service throughout his time at Stanford. He is a leader and a scholar devoted to the highest ideals of justice and service, and embodies the best of Earth Systems.

Chiamaka enjoys warm chocolate chip cookies, singing loudly but off-key, and the honeymoon phase he has with good songs when he hears them for the first time. In the future, he plans to work at the intersection of equity and sustainability in urban transportation systems.
