We've only been running software for continuous sudden motion sensor monitoring
software on a single Mac laptop for a few months. Unfortunately, our initial
software was not stable, so we had many significant gaps in data coverage that
unluckily happen to correspond to several regional earthquakes. The first earthquake we
recorded with our preliminary software was an ml 3.7 event on August 8th,
2007.
This figure shows (blue) the significance level and (red) the vertical
component.
We've now developed a stand-alone package (Quake Catcher OnePoint) that detects triggers on Mac Laptops and outputs 4 sac2000 data files (1 for each component and a significance level filter). The program and open-source code will soon be ready for download. Click here to learn more about how this program works.
