Getting started

Administrative

Meet the administrative staff on the 3rd floor of the Mitchell building. They will provide you with some paper work you need to take care of. You will also get your building and office keys there.

Computer access

The best place to start is the Departments Computing Resources page. In particular, follow the instructions for new users.

Get an accout on our group's computer system.  Talk to Stuart about setting up an account.  It is best to use the same username/password as for your pangea account.

Phone calls within campus only require the last 5 digits of a number. For external calls, dial 9+number. Long distance calls require a special code.

Great maps of Stanford and the neighboring towns can be found in the Stanford directory, which is published and distributed annually. Look around for a copy to get the map.

Special information for postdocs and international students/scholars

Information for new postdocs can be found on Stanford's Postdoc website.

International students/postdocs should visit the Bechtel International Center. They provide information and important services on matters pertaining to international students and organize many social events.

Other useful information

There is a lot of additional information on the Stanford web pages that might be of interest to you, including campus groups that promote a variety of activies and interests, the Athletics department, and much more.

SUPost is a good place to look for ads for housing, furniture, bikes, etc specific to the Stanford community.  su.market is a newsgroup with lot's of for-sale and wanted ads by the Stanford community. For the greater community, there is craigslist.
