Dr. Anthony Kovscek and Supri A

My research group and I examine the physics of oil recovery at length scales that vary from the pore to the laboratory the reservoir. The organizing themes are flow imaging to delineate the mechanisms of multiphase flow (oil, water, and gas) in porous media and the synthesis of models from experimental, theoretical, and field data. In all of our work, we strive to interweave physical observations (mainly experimental) and theory.

Associate Professor of Petroleum Engineering

My academic interests center around hydrocarbon recovery and the efficient use of energy. Before joining the faculty at Stanford in 1996, I worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I hold a Ph. D. from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. from the University of Washington. Both degrees are in Chemical Engineering

My Specific Interests Include

Strongly coupled mass/heat transport processes in fractured rocks and soils

Thermal Oil Recovery

Simulation of thermal and isothermal multiphase flow in porous media

Interfacial phenomena, especially wettability of solids,foams,and emulsions

Experimental imaging of fluid flow in porous media

Reservoir definition via streamline based techniques
