Membership funding helps support students in the SUETRI-B research group.  Over the years, we have produced excellent research that has advanced the field, and we have graduated hundreds of students who have gone on to enjoy successful careers in energy. Many have become influential leaders in the industry.

Affiliate Program

SUETRI-B is an Industrial Consortium focused on Reservoir Simulation research. Our industry partners include domestic and international oil companies, as well as service companies and software providers. Membership in the SUETRI-B Reservoir Simulation consortium is open to everyone. The membership fee is $60,000 per year, renewed annually, although we are interested in multiple-year, long-term interactions. The membership fee is used primarily to support graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and computer facilities.

Affiliate Program members may provide additional funding. All research results arising from the use of the additional funding will be shared with all program members and the general public.  The director of the Affiliate Program will determine how the additional funding will be used in the program’s research.

Affiliate Benefits

The benefits of formal affiliation with the SUETRI-B program are:

  • Invitation to annual review meeting of the research projects funded by the consortium. In this meeting, graduate students, post-docs, and research associates present their findings. We also discuss possible future areas of research interest and areas for research collaboration.
  • Membership allows for one person to register and attend the summer short course on topics of reservoir simulation. (Note: We have not held this course since the pandemic. We are likely to restart in 2025).
  • Affiliates will be identified on the SUETRI-B website.
  • Invitations to other meetings/workshops/symposia.
  • Opportunities to engage with Program faculty and students.
  • Invitations to send Visiting Scholar(s) to the Program.

Please visit Stanford University's Industrial Affiliates Program website more information on approved Industrial Affiliate Program Benefits.

Funding

  • Faculty selects research and teaching topics, methodology, and participants. Industrial Affiliate Program income is pooled and may not be directed by an individual company to an individual faculty member or members. If an affiliate program chooses to use membership fees to support research in the lab of a specific researcher, there can be no associated statement of work or "deliverables" and the results are shared with all members and publicly. If a specific research project is of interest to a faculty member and a company, the work is not part of industrial affiliate funding, but is instead completed under a sponsored research agreement.  For more information, please visit the page for Stanford Industrial Affiliates Program Guidelines.

Open-Source Software

SUETRI-B does not currently produce Open-Source Software.

When we are ready to release open source code we will follow open source licensing terms as prescribed by the Stanford Office of Technology Licensing. If interested in draft access to papers and conference proceedings, contact the director, Prof. Hamdi Tchelepi at tchelepi@stanford.edu
