Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Green 034
Please see Dale Burns (email@example.com) for access, training, and user policies.
Powder X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Green 034
Please see Dale Burns (firstname.lastname@example.org) for access, training, and user policies. All users must be certified by Environmental Health and Safety for operation of X-ray equipment.
Electron microprobe (EPMA), McCullough Building
Steering committee: Jonathan Stebbins (chair), Ian Fisher, Marty Grove, Dale Burns
Beginning Nov. 1 2013, the user fees for internal Stanford and external academic users of the electron microprobe will be:
1. The basic rate is $40 per hour, charged up to a maximum of 8 hours per 24 hr day.
2. After 8 hours of charged use in one day, unsupervised operation during the remaining time in the day can continue without additional charges. All unsupervised operation must be done by users certified by the lab director (Bob Jones).
3. For instrument operation or supervision by the lab director, or for training time outside of the regular microprobe course, the charge will be a total of $60 per hour. Lab director operation or supervision beyond 8 hr in one day is at the discretion of the lab director, and will be charged at this same rate.
4. For instrument operation by the lab director for service work, unattended, automated analyses continuing past a charged, 8 hr period will be charged at a rate of $10 per hour.
a. 9 am to 11 am, supervised instrument setup and calibration; 11 am to 3 pm unsupervised use: total charge 3x$60 + 4x$40 = $340
b. 9 am to 11 am, supervised instrument setup and calibration; 11 am to 10 pm unsupervised use: total charge 3x$60 + 5x$40 = $380
c. 9 am to 8 am, unsupervised use: total charge 8x$40=$320
d. 8 am to 7 pm, lab director operation for service: total charge 11x$60 = $600
e. 9 am to 5 pm, lab director operation for service; 5 pm to 2 am, unattended x-ray mapping: total charge 8x$60 + 9x$10 = $570
In addition, roughly one day per week of instrument time will be available at no charge for method development. Prioritization of this work will be made by the steering committee, based on brief proposals submitted to the committee. Brief documentation of methods developed will be required to facilitate use by others. Please contact Jonathan Stebbins (email@example.com) and/or Dale Burns for information about method development time.
