An Ecosystem Services Strategy for the Peruvian Amazon

Alex Markham investigated the ornamental fisheries industry in the Peruvian Amazon. The aim of his research was to determine how the fisheries industry could strike a balance among economics, livelihoods, and conservation in rural Peruvian communities. He focused his attention on implementing practices that were economically and environmentally viable. He later continued his research in Peru surveying fish populations in streams near ecotourism lodges.  He collected and photographed hundreds of species and produced a manual that outlined ecologically favorable fish capture and exportation techniques. His manual was translated into Spanish and disseminated to ecotourism lodges. He hopes it will help establish an ecologically and economically sustainable industry in the reserve.
