Ellen, a 2005 Brown University graduate with a B.A. in International Relations/Global Environment, is now working to earn both an E-IPER M.S. and a law degree. She is a former co-president and leader in the Stanford Environmental Law Society and is co-editor-in-chief of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal. She is fluent in Spanish and has volunteered with Stanford's Immigration Pro Bono Project, and is also involved in progressive legal organizations American Constitution Society and Shaking the Foundations.
Ellen is interested in the intersection of land use, energy, and climate change. Her IPER work and legal studies explore the effects on global climate change of local and national policy choices regarding land use, development, and transportation energy and infrastructure. She is also intrigued by the reverse question: how will adaptation to climate change constrain policymakers' land use, energy, and transportation choices? Ellen is currently involved in interdisciplinary research with Professor Meg Caldwell on the regulatory viability of land use instruments as applied to climate change adaptation in coastal California. She is also working with Professor Dan Ho to investigate the jurisprudential underpinnings of empirically observed judicial voting patterns.
