Jenai Longstaff (Earth Systems BS '18)

Earth Systems Program
November 21, 2015
Jenai Longstaff

Though Jenai is only a sophomore, she has already demonstrated a strong commitment to food and climate justice and resilience through her work at Phat Beets Produce in Oakland last summer. She also works as Synergy's garden manager and shares her love and skills for organic food and gardening with the entire community, as well as spreading peace and joy through her weekly yoga classes.

In high school, Jenai worked on community farms and seed libraries in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. She also worked with the U.S. Forest Service Urban Field Station and East Park Revitalization Alliance in Philadelphia, focusing on environmental justice and food sovereignty.

This year, she is the Student Outreach and Divestment Student Network organizer for Fossil Free Stanford, for which she spends hours each night planning, canvassing, and teaching. She brightens the day and broadens the mind of everyone she interacts with. She leads humbly and with grace, and helps her friends and colleagues find a path toward environmental justice where they feel powerful, connected, joyful, and confident. With heart and art, she uplifts and engages people in conversations that will pull us to a better world.
