"Characterization of greenhouse gas impacts of unconventional oil and natural gas resources: analysis and field study"
The rapid growth of unconventional fossil fuels have poses challenges to strong climate action. A clean energy transition begins with reducing emissions from fossil fuel production. Life-cycle assessment is used to quantify the greenhouse gas impacts of the Alberta oil sands based upon reported energy consumption data. Additionally, two field studies were conducted in the Bakken oil field of North Dakota investigating the persistence of venting and fugitive emissions from actively producing sites over varying time intervals.
