Speaker bios:

Steven Chu is the William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of Physics and Professor of Molecular & Cellular Physiology in the Medical School at Stanford University. Dr. Chu was the 12th U.S. Secretary of Energy from January 2009 until the end of April 2013. Dr. Chu is the co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to laser cooling and atom trapping, and has received numerous other awards.

Dr. Arun Majumdar is the Jay Precourt Provostial Chair Professor at Stanford University, a faculty member of the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering (by courtesy) and co-Director of the Precourt Institute for Energy. Dr. Majumdar was the Founding Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E). He also served as the Acting Under Secretary of Energy and a Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu. In 2010, he served on Secretary Chu's Science Team to help stop the leak of the Deep Water Horizon (BP) oil spill.
