Geostatistics

The Geostatistics/ Geomathematics program involves faculty from several departments at Stanford. Its focus is the development and statistical validation of numerical models to characterize the distribution in time and space of earth sciences phenomena. Geostatistical models aim to integrate physical constraints, combine multiple data sources, and characterize uncertainty. Applications include modeling geological heterogeneities in hydrocarbon and mineral deposits, space-time characterization of air quality, the distribution of pollutants in soil, land use change using satellite data, rainfall models, and general circulation model intercomparisons.
