Eric Gottlieb, Graduate Student, Department of Geological & Environmental Sciences

Department of Geological & Environmental Sciences

I have completed two years as a PhD student working in Elizabeth Miller's Structural Geology and Tectonics group.  I am interested in combining textural observations with radiogenic and stable isotope geochemical methods to reconstruct pre- and syn-extensional tectonic histories of exhumed continental crust.  I am carrying out my research on rocks from the Chukotka region of Far Eastern Arctic Russia and in East Central Nevada of the Basin and Range Province.  Both areas are characterized by amphibolite facies metamorphic rocks intruded by syn-extensional plutons.  Understanding the cause and timing of the transition from contractional to extensional deformation in orogenies is one of the major goals of my research.

I am interested in the links between the processes that erode and transport materials on earth's surface and the resulting landscape forms.
