Funding & Support

To be considered for funding upon admission, simply check the box on the admissions application that indicates that you wish to be considered for financial aid; there are no additional forms or materials to be submitted beyond the regular application.

Almost all graduate students admitted to Geological & Environmental Sciences receive substantial financial aid from combinations of departmental fellowships, teaching or research assistantships, and other sources; tuition is generally paid by the department.

The duration of support is generally four years for students admitted to the PhD program, and two years for students admitted to the MS program.

For 2013-2014 the value of this funding package is $54,387 (MS & pre-qual), or $55,611 (post-qual), and consists of a monthly salary of $2,960 or $3,096, respectively. for the nine months of the academic year, combined with ten units of tuition (a full load for graduate students) during each of the three academic-year quarters.
