Joint EESS/GES Winter Seminar Series, David Fike, Washington University

Joint EESS/GES Winter Seminar Series, David Fike, Washington University, "Environmental controls on the generation and eventual incorporation of sulfur signatures in sediments", Abstract: This talk highlights our current understanding of the biological and geological processes that impact the abundance and isotopic composition of sulfur preserved in sedimentary strata.  I will discuss some novel micro-analytical techniques that we have been developing to better document the variability of these proxies and to investigate their origins.  Additionally, I will outline a series of laboratory experiments and field studies in both modern environments and ancient sedimentary strata that can be used together with these techniques in order to improve our understanding of the environmental controls on sulfur-based biogeochemical proxies.
