Layouts of Network Jacks on TSOs in Earth Sciences
Last revision January 27, 2014
Computers, printers, and other devices plug into wired network jacks at "Telecommunications Service Outlets" (TSOs) in the walls. This page shows the possible layouts of the jacks within the TSOs in Braun Hall (Geology Corner), Mitchell Earth Sciences (except Branner Library), and Green Earth Sciences buildings.
TSOs may have white jacks that are for analog telephone service only (such as FAX machines). Jacks used for computer networks and VoIP network telephones in these buildings are colored orange. Starting in January 2014, newly installed network jacks will be colored green.
The number of possible network jacks in a TSO varies from two to eight. Jacks are named with letters in this order in Geology Corner and Green Earth Sciences buildings: U, X, Y, Z, M, N, O, P. In Mitchell Earth Sciences, the names are: U1, X1, U2, X2, U3, X3, U4, X4. In either case, they are named left to right and top to bottom, starting from the top leftmost network (orange or green) jack. Here are the most common layouts:
