We simulate the injectate flow based on the results from a tracer test to estimate the reservoir condition of the Kakkonda geothermal field, Japan. The test contained two-phase tracers (alcohols) and liquid phase tracers (aromatic compounds and KI) and different breakthrough curves were observed for each tracer. The simulation was conducted using geothermal reservoir simulator TOUGH2 with three-dimensional and homogeneous MINC model containing a reinjection well and three production wells.
We calculated tracer breakthrough curves similar to observed ones by adjusting the fraction of fracture volume and gas saturation: small fraction of fracture volume (< 1%) were needed for short tracer arrival time and 0.3-0.5 of gas saturation were estimated to show the difference of breakthrough curves between two-phase and liquid phase tracers.
