Abstract
Geothermal Systems Assessments offer a holistic approach in delineating geothermal resources with the methodology synonymous to that proposed by Magoon and Dow (1994) in their Petroleum Systems Analysis volume.
Four critical risk areas are identified which are related to four geological factors: heat flow (conductive and advective), thermal resistance (insulation), reservoir characteristics (void connectivity and prevailing stress regime) and access to a working fluid (usually water or steam). These parameters are examined and applied to the onshore Canning Basin in Western Australia.
