The utilization of geothermal energy has a long tradition in Hungary. When the present economic recession in the country ends in the near future, geothermal energy will surely play an increasing role in the energy supply. The paper shortly reviews the history of geothermal power use and discusses the present state of geothermal energy production inthe country. Present power statistics as well as future plans are detailed.
