Abstract
A recent chemical survey of the Ohaaki geothermal system (New Zealand) has highlighted compositional differences between the East and West Bank production fluids. The highest reservoir Cl concentrations are found on the West Bank, in apparent conflict with maximum reservoir pressures found on the east bank. B/Cl, N2/Ar and CO2/He maxima all occur on the East Bank. The current model holds that there are two heat sources for the present-day system, with that on the East Bank comprising of an actively degassing and relatively shallow-seated magmatic intrusion.
