Abstract
The Geothermal Institute continues to lead innovation in geothermal reservoir modelling through a suite of recent developments that enhance predictive accuracy, operational efficiency, and resource sustainability. This paper highlights key advancements that continue to define the state-of-the-art in geothermal modelling. First, we present our latest developments in geothermal resource assessment with uncertainty quantification which integrate probabilistic frameworks with numerical reservoir models. These methods enable more robust forecasting of geothermal potential and risk, supporting better-informed investment and development decisions. Second, we introduce a newly developed supercritical equation of state specifically for high-temperature geothermal applications. This formulation offers improved thermodynamic consistency and computational efficiency, enabling accurate simulation of supercritical fluid behavior at reservoir scale. Third, we discuss our advances in geochemical modelling, with a focus on chloride transport and trace elements such as lithium. These improvements allow for more precise tracking of economically and environmentally significant species, supporting both resource valuation and sustainability assessments. Fourth, we introduce new AI-driven tools for estimating missing production data, leveraging machine learning techniques to reconstruct incomplete datasets. These tools are particularly valuable for legacy fields and real-time monitoring where data gaps are common. Finally, we present new workflow tools designed to streamline scenario setup, enabling users to rapidly configure and iterate through multiple development strategies. These tools significantly reduce modelling overhead and facilitate collaborative decision-making across multidisciplinary teams. Together, these innovations are examples of our continuous development of geothermal reservoir modelling, reinforcing the Geothermal Institute’s commitment to advancing clean energy technologies through scientific excellence and practical innovation.
