Abstract
In 1999, PNOC Energy Development Corporation decided to design and construct the LGPF Steamline Interconnection. The company decided to pursue this project in order to improve the overall plant factor of LGPF and to increase the overall operating flexibility of LGPF through a back-up plant that shall operate during shut-down of the existing plants.
The LGPF steamline interconnection posed a number of engineering challenges in the design stage. First of all, it has to run no less than ten kilometers through the mountainous terrain of LGPF. Second, its control concept requires that the existing plants and the proposed back-up plant can be operated simultaneously. Finally, since the various power plants are operated at different operating pressures, tapping points along the interconnection line should consider the pressure profiles along the existing lines.
This paper shows how the LGPF Steamline Interconnection was designed, and how the above requirements were addressed through proper application of process design principles.
