Abstract
About one third of the total energy in Iceland is derived geothermal resources. of the energy is used for space heating and obtained fields in the Tertiary strata outside the volcanic =. Higher permeability is in the Plio-Pleistocene strata characterized by subaerial lavas intercalated by subglacial volcanics and than in the Tertiary strata consist mstly of subaerial lavas. The close association of activity with high hydrothermal. system within the volcanic zone has been during the rift ing episode in the Krafla volcano. in geothermal research are mtioned and a review given of recent advances in the of both the and the high temperature fields in Iceland.
