Abstract
Methods of holdup prediction of gasliquid flow are outlined briefly and it is concluded that no one specific correlation will allow prediction of holdup to be achieved over the entire range of possible flow regimes. The general correlation form suggested by Butterworth (1975) formed a basis for the presentation of data. For the case of horizontal pipe flow, the data falls into a number of regions depending on the flow regime. The Armand (1946) relation predicts bubble and slug flow while three other relations predict annular type flow, film plus droplet flow and droplet flow. Stratified flow is predicted from an extension of the Lockhart-Martinell (1949) theory. For upward inclined flow general correlations are developed for the first two relations while in downward flow the holdup can be predicted from extensions of these two plus the stratified flow theory.
