Geothermal Research and Development Activities of the U.S. Department of Energy

As you are probably aware, the last few years have brought substantial changes in the US Government's energy programs. This has resulted in a shift away from ization" and a reduction in the geothermal R D budget, consistent with the administration's policy of reducing interference in the free market and reducing def ts. I t ' s a pleasure to be here to As we look forward to fiscal year 1983, we will continue bringing demonstration programs to an orderly conclusion and redirect our emphasis critical high- risk R D that industry is not expected to undertake. A t the same time, our cooperation with industry through the Electric Power Research Institute, the Geothermal Resources Council, and our many other contacts will continue as do our best to interpret industry's interests and policies to make sure that our program remains relevant.
