Abstract:

In contrast to the successful applications of geothermal energy to generate electricity in Japan and Phillipine, Taiwan has had only one case study of this clean energy. In the 70's, CPC drilled more than 10 wells in Cingshuei, Yilan County to develop a geothermal field. Because of well productivity decline, this field has been abandoned.

A review of well and reservoir data from this field is initiated. The result from an investigation at Stanford University of well productivity connected with finite conductivity fractures by applying a potentiometric model and a finite-element model is presented.

Although it was concluded before that the productivity decline was due to plugging of wellbore and fractures by scales. Without an accurate measurement of downhole pressure and temperature, it is difficult to design a workover program. The question is still remained to be answered that the reservoir either has a limited size or is not rechargeable.
