Abstract:

Kizildere Geothermal Field is the first and the only field of Turkey utilized for electricity generation. Although the field was discovered in 1968, electricity generation was started in 1984 with an installed capacity of 20.4 MWe. Since then, the power plant is producing with an average of 10 MWe. The field has some operational problems such as fluid disposal and decline in reservoir pressure. The best solution for these two operational problems seems to be the re-injection of produced fluid. There were four re-injection trials in the field. The first three were trials into the well bores which were originally drilled for exploration and production purposes. The last test on the other hand, was carried out at a recently drilled re-injection well, R-2. 147 ?C hot water obtained from the separators of four production wells (KD-14, KD-15, KD-16 and KD-20) was injected at an average of 230 tons/h and varying injection temperature of 114 - 144 ?C. In the mean time, a tracer test was carried out. The results of tracer test will be discussed separately in another article. 3 months long re-injection test gave positive results of increasing reservoir pressure with no thermal effect. As the consequence of this encouraging results full reinjection application was started in December 2002. This paper will interpret 17 months long reinjection application in Kizildere Geothermal Field. The results indicate a cooling effect in the nearest well to the reinjection well. On the other hand, the allowable production rate from the field without experiencing a decline in reservoir pressure was increased from 830 tons/h up to 1000 tons/h.
