A group of fields were reviewed to determine the actual heat recovery under exploitation, and hence the recovery factor. With a tight definition of reservoir volume, and reference temperature at ambient, the average recovery factor is 13±5%, or half the 25% originally used in the USGS method. With a wide definition of the reservoir, recovery factor is only a few percent.
