Exploration Geology of Hydrothermal Systems in the Hakkoda Volcanic Field, Japan

Abstract

The high temperature hot springs in the Hakkoda volcanic field are directly related to the location of calderas. Each caldera has a hydrothermal system within it. The fundamental features of each hydrothermal system, such as the geothermal heat source, geothermal reservoir structure and geothermal fluids, are controlled by the calderas in the Hakkoda volcanic field. The pattern of hydrothermal dischargefrom the Valles-type caldera is different from the discharge from the Crater Lake-type calderas. The former shows ring fault control, but the latter is centralized.
