A Brief History of Chemical Exploration at Ohaaki-Broadlands

Abstract

The investigations at Ohaaki illustrates how the chemical knowledge at each stage of exploration was used to predict the then unproved chemical parameters of the system. Initial surface chemistry predicted high gas concentrations at depth. Measurements on fluid inclusions, together with well chemistry was used to deduce the chemical, thermal and history of Ohaaki-Broadlands. Recent data have shown the of the CO, rich waters in relation to hydrology, mineral deposition, permeability, dilution, and corrosion. It is recommended that more attention be given to these types of water in investigation of any geothermal system.
