Abstract
Jeder Fachmann benutzt ganz selbstverstaendlich spezialisierte Software fuer seinen Anwendungsbereich. Um den Datenaustausch zu vereinfachen, haben wissenschaftliche und industrielle Fachkreise oft Standards akzeptiert, die haeufig auf XML aufsetzen. Die Automobilindustrie war der Protagonist fuer das Produktdatenmodell STEP zur Beschreibung mechanischer Bauteile. Auf STEP aufbauend definierte bulidingSMART fuer Architekten und das Baugewerbe das Building Information Model (BIM) IFC (Industry Foundation Classes). Auf der Stadtebene, die z.B. bei der Planung von Fernwaermenetzen im Fokus steht, wurde CityGML zum Standard des Open Geospatial Consortiums (OGC). Andere Standadrs sind z.B. WITSML (Wellsite information transfer standard markup language) fuer die Bohrfachleute, SEG Y von der Society Exploration Geophysicists fuer geophysikalische Daten oder GeoSciML, das fuer die uebertragung von Infrmationen zur Geologie verwendet werden kann.
