Abstract

The success or failure of a geothermal well depends on the selection of drilling fluid. Drilling fluids should provide high rates of penetration, maximize bit life, minimize fluid loss into the formation and stability of the formation. Drilling fluids that are used to reach these objectives must not damage to the reservoir and can be removed during the completion phase, but, the filtrate and solid invasion cause irreversible formation damage, permeability reduction and detrimental effect to well productivity. In this study, the rheological and filtration characteristics of drilling fluids are designed with the drilling fluid additives including polymeric and nondamaging acid-soluble solids. The results are evaluated according to the measurements of the rheological and filtration characteristics of fluids under different compositions and thermal conditions.
