The U.S. Department of Energyís Geothermal R&D Program continues to focus on the major technical and fiiancial hurdles identified by industry that inhiiit investment in and development of geothermal resources. The near-term objective is to extend economical geothermal development to those resources which are not competitive today. This paper summarizes the Fiscal statement of faith rn ture of this resource. Year 1990 research activities designed to make incremental progress toward this objec also describes trends at the federal, state, and tional levels that appear to favor an expanded geothermal market and provide an impetus to continued technology development.
