Abstract
The Wairakei Geothermal Field, New Zealand, lies in the southern part of the tectonically active Taupo Volcanic Zone rift system. With the installation of the Wairakei Seismic Network in 2009, high-resolution microseismic data became available for improved seismic monitoring and reservoir characterisation. In this study, spatial-temporal characteristics of microseismic events collected between March 2009 and May 2014 are investigated using total populations and clustered microseismic events. In order to assist this task, customized algorithms for cluster detection and fault characterization are developed. Possible trigger mechanisms for microseismicity in production and reinjection areas are discussed.
