Abstract
In this paper the basic features which a model of a bottom-heated vapour-dominated reservoir must possess are described. It turns out that the essential components of a viable 1D steady-state model which includes a vapour zone are: a caprocWaquifer interface, a non-zero net mass upflow (excludes the geothermal heatpipe), and significant conduction. It appears that the combined significance of these three physical mechanisms has not been generally appreciated. There are additional constraints on caprock permeability (small) and the depth of the interface (sufficient).
