Abstract
TheHipaua area covers of hot and Steamingground. It 750m long segment of the eroded Waihifault which constitutes the northwestern boundary of the Tokaanu-Waihi field. The largest manifestation is the Hipaua fumarolewhich discharges 1.4 The heat output of the Hipaua area is at least 21 MW, the heat deriving from steam flashed in the reservoir. Only minor, practically condensates are discharged the area. The hot ground is more extensive than indicated by infra-red surveys. The whole area is intensely alteredas a result of steam condensation.
