Abstract

CO2 mixing ratio measurements have been performed for the first time on the margins of Waiotapu geothermal area using an open-path Tunable Diode Laser (TDL). The survey measurements were conducted along strands of the Ngapouri Fault that extend to the south-southwest away from Waiotapu. The main purpose of these surveys was to test whether geothermal CO2 mixing ratios can be detected along Ngapouri Fault strands where geothermal surface activity (e.g., sinter deposits and/or areas of steaming ground) is not observed. High CO2 mixing ratios were observed at the top of some fault strands (474
