Abstract
The engineering of EGS heat exchangers requires a system layout in which the outcome can be predicted within specified uncertainty before the technology can be deployed on a commercial scale. We are performing fracturing experiments under tri-axial compression for improving the understanding of fracture formation. The experiments will be used later to verify a numerical fracture propagation code currently under development. Acoustic emissions during the fracturing experiment are recorded for monitoring fracture propagation.
