Abstract

Abating or preventing environmental contamination is one of
the substantial challenges that the humans have to face. One
would exaggerate stating that utilization of thermal waste
energy from industry and geothermal energy instead of fossil
fuels combustion may have a global impact. Nevertheless, an
effective use of these energy sources may lead to a significant
improvement of the state of environment on regional, if
not national scale especially in areas abundant in thermal
waste energy or where geothermal waters occur.
Energy of geothermal waters and waste energy can be
utilized to replace conventional energy carriers in an environmentally
friendly manner.

This study presents the role of waste energy in environmental
protection on the example of utilizing discharge waters
from electricity production processes. World literature
sources propose applying waste heat energy from industry as
well as geothermal waters mainly for food production: in hydroponics
cultivation, poultry farming, stock-farming, fish
breeding, soil heating and heating the air in greenhouses and
foil tunnels to expand the vegetation season.
Achievements from the performed experiments were very
important not only from the viewpoint of environmental protection,
but economically relevant as well..
