Abstract

Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power systems have been in significant use in the last few decades, primarily for utility-scale medium to high temperature (typically above 300°F) geothermal power plants, as well as for utility-scale multi-MW Recovered Energy Generation (REG) applications. However, ORC technology can also be technically and economically applied for lower scale sub-MW applications. This paper will focus on two such applications: low temperature geothermal power plants for rural applications and geothermal power plants utilizing hot water coproduced from oil and gas wells.
