Abstract
We present the numerical model of thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) coupled processes in a deep geothermal reservoir as well as its applications. The presented scheme is applicable for both an equivalent porous medium model and a discrete fracture model with multi dimensional elements. The finite element method (FEM) is used for the numerical analysis of fully coupled THM processes, including thermal water flow, advective-diffusive heat transport, and thermoelasticity. However, thermo-poroelastic response has been taken into account only for rock matrix in the present study. Application of the model is presented for a geothermal site at Urach Spa in Germany. The study also demonstrates an uncertainty analysis of THM processes and improvement of computational efficiency with parallel computing.
