Abstract
India needs additional electric power generation on the order of 100,000 MWe to bridge the gap between demand and supply by the year 2012. This will generate about 620 million metric tones of CO2. Both mitigation of CO2 emissions and meeting the future electricity demand can be accomplished by exploiting available enhanced geothermal sources across the Himalayas as well as in the central Indian continent.
