Abstract
In the early 1960s geothermal exploration delineated a possible resource in northern Utah near Brigham City. In 1974 this potential resource was drilled using typical oilfield technology, drilling with mud and casing and cementing such that any resource that was encountered was never allowed to be tested beyond a brief period of surface flow. This flow was 3500 gpm at 286 degrees F. at the surface. A careful reevaluation of the unpublished drilling results combined with a detailed evaluation of the geology of the area of interest indicates the probable presence of a major commercial quality geothermal resource in northern Utah, now named the Renaissance Geothermal Field.
