Abstract
Research efforts have been oriented toward investigation of ways to measure enthalpy down hole. These efforts have thus far led to applicable methods for determining void fraction and gas phase velocity, which are two essential factors required for calculations of flowing enthalpy. Experiments with temperature, resistivity and optical based sensors have been carried out. The resistivity and optical tests have yielded successful estimates for gas phase velocity. Temperature measurements have as of yet not proven to be successful. Bulk estimates of void fraction based on impedance of two-phase flow surrounding parallel plates have also been investigated and revealed somewhat promising results.
