Abstract
These notes outline the major circumstancesand events influencing the decision to investigate the resources of New Zealand, together with problems faced in the early days of the development of Wairakei. They cover the period fiom 1918 when the first suggestion for the investigationof the resource appeared until early 1953 when Wairakei's development began in earnest.
