Abstract:

Electricity began to be produced at the Miravalles
geothermal field in early 1994. Since then, the
installed capacity has increased from 55 MWe to
142.5 MWe. A binary plant (15.5 MWe) will be
finishing its final tests by February 2004, increasing
the fieldís capacity to 158 MWe. The management
of injection in the field during nearly ten years of
exploitation is described in the following sections.
The most recent numerical simulation of the
Miravalles reservoir suggested changing the
distribution of injection (more to the west and less to
the south), in order to improve the performance of the
reservoir. These changes were implemented, and
their results are presented.
