Abstract
Thermal state beneath Kuju volcano, central Kyushu, Japan is investigated as a first step to volcano energy utilization. Simulation of the regional high heat flow around Kuju volcano shows that most of the underlying magma reservoir is not molten at present but maintains high temperatures of 400-700°C. Simulation of the thermal processes beneath the solfatara field which is above the central part of the cooling magma suggests that the geothermal reservoir is a two phase reservoir heated by magmatic fluids.
